Sophie's Squad All Dangle League Team Named

by Pete Waggoner

Edina, MN - The Dangle League’s Sophie’s Squad All Dangle League Team was announced prior to the Dangle Cup was captured by Performance Office Papers’ 4-2 win over Tradition Mortgage.  Players at each team are listed by position and in alphabetical order by position.

Forwards

Makayla Moran (Hepp’s Salt Co.) The dynamic forward led the league with 3g-9a-12pts including a season high 4 point effort (1g-3a) against Performance Office Papers on August 1st.  Moran plays for Apple Valley high school and had points in 6 of 8 games against the top competition that the Dangle League provides.  With a high compete level, a terrific first step that leads to pull away acceleration that plays downhill, and you get a freight train.  Moran made others around her better while playing with pace and an edge.  She is committed to play college hockey for Minnesota State Mankato after her senior season.

Lorelai Nelson (Tradition Mortgage) Nelson finished second in the regular season in points with 8 (3g-5a) and missed the playoffs while playing at the USA Hockey U18 series against Canada . Vision, hockey IQ, and great stick skills are featured in Nelson’s game who knows how to advance the puck in transition while excelling in the offensive zone off board battles and from the corners. Seeing teammates is one thing and getting them the puck as a whole other thing and Nelson excels at it.  She had a goal and three assists against Empowers Performance on August 1st and picked up points in 6 of her 8 games played.  She will be a junior at Edina High School this year and is uncommitted for college.

Ruby Rauk (Hepp’s Salt Co.) Rauk played a league leading 10 games this year including her 8 with Hepp’s Salt Co, she played in a pair of games for Performance Office Papers.  She collected points in 8 of her 10 games played (8g-2a) and it did not matter who she was on the ice, pucks were going into the net. Quinnipiac University is not only a natural goal scorer, which is hard to come by at any level, who is a pitbull with a motor that never stops and owns the dirty areas.  Rauk will be a senior at Minnetonka High School this year and is a smart hockey player that sees the play ahead of time.

Defense

Mackenzie Jones (Performance Office Papers) Jones first game featured a shoot out game-winning goal, to go along with a goal and an assist.  Not a bad start for a blueliner.  Jones, who is committed to the University of Wisconsin is a strong and explosive player  who plays with a long stick and reach.  Jones has a well purposed strong shot that gets through and she handles all three zones like a leader and is command at all times. Jones finished the season with 2g-5a-7pts in 7 games played.  She was clutch in the Dangle Cup Final with 2 assists. Jones will be a senior at Andover high school.

Josie Skoogman (Empowers Performance) Skoogman is under control and smooth in her skating and it was on display all season long in the Dangle League.  She knows when to jump up in a play through the neutral zone and then again in the offensive zone.  Her defending in the defensive zone completed her game in all three zones.  She had a great playoff with a key goal in the semi-finals against Performance Office Papers and had an assist in the third place game against Hepp’s Salt Co.  Skoogman finished the season with 2g-2a-4pts and will be a senior at Hill-Murray high school this upcoming season.

Goalie
Layla Hemp (Hepp’s Salt Co) Domination would be the word for the Minnetonka senior goaltender.  Hemp opened the season with four straight games of shutout hockey totalling a string of 120 minutes.  She also had another shoutout appearance giving her five for the season.  With a .924 save percentage and 1.22 goals against average in the regular season, Hemp solidified her spot on the team.  Positionally sound, Hemp stays aggressive when addressing shooters and plays the angles well.  Her focus on rebound control reflects great technical skill yet she blends in athleticism to her game.  Hemp is committed to the University of Minnesota.
